Massaging is one of the vital elements in the growing up stage of babies. According to one study, regular massage often results in babies gaining more weight. It also affects positively in terms of alertness and high activity. Regular massage helps babies in mature neurological development compared to babies that are not massaged. Massaging refers to sense of touch and surprisingly this sense is felt by human embryos that are just eight weeks old. The sensitive skin does it for the foetus. So why massaging is important for babies?

The single most important fact comes out in the open when we imagine the situation of a baby who has just come out of the comfort of mother’s womb. The world will seem a strange place and everything will appear unfamiliar. Even as adult we find it difficult to adjust to new surroundings so thinking from a baby’s point of view, it must be quite difficult. Massage in the initial phase must be feeling like a strange experience. But slowly, a baby gets used to it and consequently it helps her in understanding and practicing input and she responds it with relaxed demeanour. A massage is often accompanied by soothing voice and comfortable physical contact so that makes it an overall pleasurable experience for the baby.

Human bonding is enhanced by sense of touch. Similarly, a bond between mother and child is strengthened by touch. Massaging acts as most basic method of bonding between the parents and baby. Massaging acts as a powerful tool and parents must ensure regular massage for their babies.

Parenting is no easy task. It involves several sleepless nights, constant feeding and inherent factors like hormonal changes. Mothers must be prepared for months of hard work and inconsistent sleep cycle. It’s a hard job, no doubt but it is also fulfilling. Mothers can only sleep when baby is asleep and sleeping cycle of babies is never consistent. They can keep you awake whole night because of food requirement. As baby grows older, he/she will start sleeping for longer duration.

Mothers must be prepared to feed baby as and when he requires. Babies must be fed as much as possible before bed hour. Some mothers prefer to give babies formula feed and vitamin supplements. Because of that, she will sleep longer. Mothers can also inculcate habit in babies of feeding time. Quite often parents try to keep babies awake during day time so that she will sleep at night. This is not advisable considering babies need lot of sleep. Don’t interfere with her sleep cycle and let her sleep as long as she wants. However, parents can try to keep lights off during night so that babies can learn that night is for sleeping.

One of the important processes in babies sleeping cycle is swaddling. It means making the baby feel secure. For doing that, parents can use a warmer fabric like cotton to bundle up the infant. This way, babies can feel secure and will sleep comfortably. If the baby is tightly wrapped he or she wont trouble you much and will remain in peace. As baby start growing old, you don’t need to wrap her tightly or just let her arms out of the sheet.

The skin of baby is very sensitive. That makes it quite imperative for parents, especially mother to understand the skin of the babies. We should also know why some babies are born with acne. Quite often, new born babies also develop severe acne in the first few weeks of the birth. The reason is, hormonal changes taking place in mothers during pregnancy. Apart from hormones, iron and calcium also get passed to the babies and a combination of these elements can cause acne in babies.

Quite a number of parents complain and worry about acne. But the fact is these acne disappear after few months. Once the hormone factor gets stabilised, the skin tends to settle down and it again becomes totally smooth and blemish free. Just make sure, mothers are not using harsh soap on skin for removing rashes. That will further deteriorate the skin. There are several forms of acne that might trouble your cute baby.

One of the common forms of skin irritation is diaper rash. It takes place in the diaper area and often cause attributed to stool and urine. Another possibility of this irritation could be allergy to diaper. If your baby develops diaper rash, mother should keep the area clean and dry. If the area is exposed to air that would also work in his favour. Apply soothing cream to the place and always wash the area with warm water.

When the baby develops crusty patches on the scalp, it is known as cradle cap. Mostly, oil producing glands on the scalp cause this problem. The solution is to use baby shampoo on a regular basis. Keep the area clean and it won’t take much before the cradle cap is gone. Heat rush is another form of irritant that babies are susceptible to. To avoid this condition try to keep baby in airy surroundings and place must be well ventilated. Make sure to use sunscreen on his skin for further protection.

Baby’s sleep is most important for parents. Most of the parents around the world face problems with their baby’s sleep. In the first few years every baby experience irregular sleep patterns with which parents have to struggle.

Do you know the actual reason why babies have disturbed sleep? The most common reasons are hunger, pain, discomfort, illness, and wet nappy. Sometimes baby’s sleep is also disturbed by extreme weather conditions and boredom. And if you wrap them with tight blankets or cloths they feel uncomfortable and this even disturbs their sleep.

Even though all these situations prevail its completely depends on parents how they deal with their baby’s sleep. Babies are not familiar to the day and night concept so it is the parent’s duty to make them feel the distinction. Parents should make them feel that darkness or dim light is the time for sleep. And after a few weeks of birth, food timings should also been set for them so that they don’t feel hungry at odd periods of the day. This all depends on how parents handle the situations and how they teach them.

Most of the parents make a common mistake of taking their babies on a stroll or long drive during night. At a time when you are teaching your baby to fall asleep when night arrives taking them on a drive makes them learn that night is not for sleeping but a time to have fun. This makes your baby more addicted to external aid and later on they’ll develop a habit to sleep with the use of such aids like a long drive, rocking on a chair, or using a pacifier.

You also need to keep them away from dirt, smoke, and other such materials that may cause discomfort to them and affect their sleep. For a more peaceful sleep you can even sing lullabies or soothing rhymes to help your baby sleep better.

How to choose the right day care

The right day care for your baby is one where he or she will be safe, happy, and receive plenty of nurturing care. Home-based day care providers are common, as are commercial day care centers. Either of these types of day care offer advantages and disadvantages which you must carefully evaluate before making final decision. child care

Licensing – Always check to be sure a potential day care is properly licensed and has passed its health and safety inspections.

Adult to child ratio – There are varying rules about how many children a single adult can care for at once, usually categorized by the ages of the children. The lower the ration between adults and children, the more personalized and individual attention your baby will receive.

Nurturing care – Babies need warmth and nurturing to flourish, so look for a day care where the provider(s) genuinely enjoy caring for their charges. There should be smiles, laughter, cuddling, and positive words of encouragement. If the provider(s) have scowls on their faces and grumpy attitudes, it’s probably not a very nurturing environment.

Cost – Day care is, in a word, expensive. Very expensive. As with many things, however, the better quality day cares typically cost more money. There are exceptions to this, of course, but always be wary of a day care where the rates are substantially lower than the average for your area.

Nutrition – Your baby will need to be fed while at the day care, so find out about their nutrition program. An infant will likely still eat from a bottle and later take in prepared baby food, but as your child gets older the day care will most likely provide snacks and lunch. Check to be sure all food is prepared according to proper health practices and that it is nutritious.

Convenience – This is an important factor to consider when selecting a day care, but should not necessarily be the deciding factor. It’s great to have a day care that’s close to home or conveniently located along the route of your commute, but never compromise quality of care for the sake of convenience. It’s much better for your baby (and your peace of mind) to go a little bit out of your way to get the best possible care.

How to choose the right babysitter

preschool friendsThe time has come to hire a babysitter, so what important factors should you consider? Let’s take a look at what the experts say.

Age & Experience – It’s quite common for teenagers, especially girls, to earn extra money by babysitting for friends and neighbors. Before leaving your baby with anyone, find out how old they are and what kind of babysitting experience they have. Ask for references and don’t be shy about checking them. The general rule of thumb is the younger your baby, the more experienced your babysitter should be.

Hourly Rate – Each babysitter will set his or her own hourly rate, so be sure to ask about it in advance. If you have more than one child find ask about any additional costs that might be involved. You’ll probably find that there are a few very good babysitters in your neighborhood, that their services are in high demand, and that their hourly rate tends to be higher. Any experienced parent will tell you a good babysitter is sometimes hard to find, so once you have found one it is well worth it to pay a little bit extra. This will help ensure he or she is happy to babysit for you whenever the opportunity arises.

First Aid Training – Always ensure your babysitter has the proper first aid training. Your local Red Cross chapter most likely offers babysitter training and certification classes, so find out if your babysitter has participated in one. You might even consider paying the class fee for your favorite babysitter to attend.

Nurturing Care – Make sure the babysitter you choose provides loving, nurturing care for your baby. A good way to determine this is to hire the sitter for a couple of “test runs” before leaving for any length of time. Bring in a sitter to watch your baby while you do household chores or otherwise stay busy around the house; this allows you to keep an eye on how the two of them do together and spot any potential problems with the sitter. One of the best indicators of loving and nurturing care occurs when, after using a babysitter several times, your baby is happy and excited to see him or her arrive at your house.
